Gen 20:6-7 “And God said to him in a dream, “Yes, I know that you did this in the integrity of your heart. For I also withheld you from sinning against Me; therefore I did not let you touch her. Now therefore, restore the man’s wife; for he is a prophet, and he will pray for you and you shall live. But if you do not restore her, know that you shall surely die, you and all who are yours.”
What would have happened if Abimelech did not acted fast? He might get more temptations to go near to Sarah and sin against the Lord. The delay would take him closer to the darkness and ultimately death. God warned him if he did not obey, then he would die. The dullness or his inaction or carelessness of God’s warning would have ended up with losing his life.
Imagine the snare like a rope tied to our leg, each twist from the enemy is a pull from him and the more we linger, the more he drags us towards him. After sometime we might be lost somewhere, we don’t see God, because we are not in His presence anymore. Remember without holiness we can not see the Lord (Heb 12:14). The dullness or our inaction will ultimately remove us from light to darkness. The enemy can not consume us in His presence, he can only work in darkness. That is the perimeter of his working on God’s children. He can not come near us, but he can drag us to him with his snares. We have to act immediately without any dullness or carelessness, we have to resist him hard with the power of the Holy Spirit, and he will flee from us. The snares of the devil will be broken by the resurrected power of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Jam 4:7 “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”
