II Cor 7:10 “For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death.” I Tim 6:10, “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”

Anything other than godly sorrow will lead us to death. Sometimes it will be extremely hard to distinguish whether the sadness that we have is godly or ungodly. Whenever sadness engulfs us, we tend to lose our intimacy with the Lord a certain amount. Worrying about the future, greediness of money, worrying about health, are all some of the leading factor to the worldly sorrow. What is the cause of this ungodly sorrow?

It is the ‘unbelief’ and ignorance towards the ‘Promise of God’.

On the road to Emmaus, two men walking and our Lord asked them what they were talking among them with sadness. Here, their sorrow in their hearts is ignorance to realize the scriptures, and their heart’s unbelief Who Christ is, and what He has to go through. Faith plays a very vital role to rejoice in the Lord. If our faith wavers, then our joy will also follow the same pattern. Other side of it is the ignorance or not knowing the promise of God in the scriptures regarding our life, and our inheritance in the heavenly places, in Christ. We can grow in faith only through holding the promise of God in the scriptures. When we live a life of faith in the Lord by claiming the promise, we will have joy in Christ, and nobody can rob that. We can escape from the ungodly sorrow, which leads to death, and rejoice in the Lord every day to inherit the eternal life.
