I Peter 1:13-17 Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; 14 as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; 15 but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16 because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”17 And if you call on the Father, who without partiality judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves throughout the time of your stay here in fear;
Holiness is not something that we target to achieve. It is not something once we reached the goal we are done. Holiness is an expression of our spirit, soul and body towards our Creator through the Spirit of Holiness in Lord Jesus Christ. If that expression is beautiful and pleasing to the Lord God, then we know that we are fulfilling the verse in I Peter 1:15 ‘but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct’.
Holiness is not erected on its own foundation, but it is built upon Grace, Love and godly Fear. When these are our foundation and the levels of our building, then the beauty of it will express Holiness strongly. If the foundation and the levels of building are not laid properly, then holiness will fail on its own. A problem we see today in many is that they concentrate on the holiness when they are not giving proper attention to Grace, love and godly fear. If these three are missing then holiness will fall apart. Grace is poured upon us through our Lord Jesus Christ and we need to know the power of His grace. Love is executed in obedience because it is the commandment from the Lord Himself. Godly fear brings godly wisdom in our life, which gives us more understanding to the spiritual matters. Now on top of this Holiness is expressed. Holiness is a culmination of different attributes to be expressed by us to God.
Let us meditate on holiness for a while to see what God expects from us as a believer, as a Christ centered family and as a Church of Jesus Christ.
