Num 20:1-13

Now there was no water for the congregation; so they gathered together against Moses and Aaron. And the people contended with Moses and spoke, saying: “If only we had died when our brethren died before the Lord! Why have you brought up the assembly of the Lord into this wilderness, that we and our animals should die here? And why have you made us come up out of Egypt, to bring us to this evil place? It is not a place of grain or figs or vines or pomegranates; nor is there any water to drink.”

In these verses, we can see the Israelites intentions when they were contending with Moses and Aaron. They mentioned the blessing, that is the land with milk and honey and they were looking forward for it. Their whole thinking is on the blessing and when it delayed or the going got tough, they liked the bondage more than the blessing.

In this message is ‘The rock will yield its water under the authority of God’ there is a spiritual teaching for us. When God provided Israelites during their journey with the earthly providence, He also taught them spiritual lessons along with that.  Those who did not follow these spiritual lessons and looked at Him only for the earthly blessing died in the wilderness, because they did not please God (I Cor 10:5). If we are looking for water inside the rock or looking for things using the word of God inside a closed door only to meet our earthly agenda, then we can not do His will and by that we will not please Him. When we have earthly intentions, we can not understand the will of God in our driest condition, closed doors, sickness or other drought.  Let us always be of spiritual minded when we are looking for His providence. Then we will see His guidance very clearly and His authority will be manifested among us for both earthly and eternal life.
