II Samuel 7th Chapter
Now it came to pass when the king was dwelling in his house, and the Lord had given him rest from all his enemies all around, 2 that the king said to Nathan the prophet, “See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells inside tent curtains.” 3 Then Nathan said to the king, “Go, do all that is in your heart, for the Lord is with you.” 4 But it happened that night that the word of the Lord came to Nathan, saying, 5 “Go and tell My servant David, ‘Thus says the Lord: “Would you build a house for Me to dwell in?
Through faith, we present ourselves before God. Through the body of Jesus Christ our Lord, we stand in the presence of God. Jesus Christ is the Mediator for us and in Him and through Him we stand before God in faith. When we are in Christ Jesus, we gain understanding through Him by the Holy Spirit. Spiritual minded men drew spiritual discernment about any situation from the deep well of the counsel. Their desire is to fulfill God’s righteousness in their life. Because of this desire, they always will be thinking related to God’s kingdom and wanted to do something for God.
King David wanted to build a house for God. He wanted to do a good act and that desire sprung up in his heart. He mentions that to Prophet Nathan. Nathan replied “Go, do all that is in your heart, for the Lord is with you.” However, God’s will is to have Solomon, David’s son to build Him a temple. So God spoke to Nathan that night and He reveled His plan before him and asked him to convey it to David. Here we can see that the King’s desire is different from God’s desire even though it is a good desire and righteous according to God and men.
If King David decided to build a temple thinking if it is God’s will let it happen and started to build a temple for God , would that not against the will of God? Likewise, many brothers and sisters today without understanding the leading of God taking decisions like throwing stone at a tree for a fruit. The attitude towards any issue is like, if the stone hits the fruit then it is the will of God and if not it is just a stone that is lost is prevalent among many today. This approach is even followed by some regarding the work that they do for the kingdom of God. This approach would contradict what God has in His mind and we may be at a dangerous place where we might lose what God has in store for us in terms of His wonderful blessings.
We can always present our desire about certain issues or situation before God. God according to His sovereign will would give us His counsel or leading. Sometimes we may have to wait for His counsel. We should not yield to the urge to do something good. We need to first check with the Lord for His leading and if we do, then we can see permanent fruits in our works.
