Num 10: 17-21 & 28 Then the tabernacle was taken down; and the sons of Gershon and the sons of Merari set out, carrying the tabernacle. 18 And the standard of the camp of Reuben set out according to their armies; over their army was Elizur the son of Shedeur. 19 Over the army of the tribe of the children of Simeon was Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai. 20 And over the army of the tribe of the children of Gad was Eliasaph the son of Deuel. 21 Then the Kohathites set out, carrying the holy things. (The tabernacle would be prepared for their arrival.)
28 Thus was the order of march of the children of Israel, according to their armies, when they began their journey.
The guidance that we receive from God will help us to live a disciplined spiritual life and it takes us from one level to the next through obedience. If we look back at Ps 32, it is written that God keep His eyes on us and leading us. His eye is generally is His Spirit. Holy Spirit watches over us and guides us as we journey in this spiritual life. Like how He did it for Israelites during their Journey in the wilderness. He gave His guidance to Moses and he implemented it among the children of God.
Discipline: If we look at Num 10, we can see How God guides the Israelites in an orderly fashion. He gave them guidance on who should be at the forefront when they travel, and who should be as their rear guard. If we look closely to verse 17-21, first, the tabernacle is carried and then they carry holy things after the tribes of Rueben, Simeon and Gad. Why there is a gap between tabernacle and its holy things is because when they set up their camp in the new place they will first install the tabernacle and by the time they finish installing, holy things will reach the camp and it can be kept in order. See the timing and the order that was given by God. He leads us in a precise manner and in an orderly fashion.
Paul says in 1 Cor 14: 33 that “For God is not the author of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints.” Also he writes in verse 40, “Let all things be done decently and in order.” Here Paul speaks how there should be order in the church gathering. How everyone should take their turn in dispensing their gifts for the edification of saints. Therefore, when there is a leading of God there will be order and discipline in our church, family and individual life. This order and discipline will give us the endurance to run our spiritual race.
