Rom 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.

If we see the life of Cain what God told him was “If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.” If you do well, what is this means? This means that you overcome sin or overcome the temptation that you do not sin. Temptations will come, but how do we over come is the ‘do well’ part. Rom 1:2, Paul says, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God. When Cain presented his sacrifice God did not accept that sacrifice, so something is defiled in that sacrifice. Jesus said that any defilement comes from within our heart. This defiles our body and our sacrifice. That defilement is the sin that is committed because of excess craving of our own desires. The devil is only fueling the defilement. He only tempts you to achieve the desire that rose within yourself. In Rom 6 Paul says do not let sin reign in your mortal body that you should obey to its lusts. The obedience to the lust of the carnal body which is fueled by devil or his messengers leads to defilement. But the power of the Holy Spirit will enable you to control that desire or quench that flame of desire in your heart, so you do not sin and overcome it. This is the attack of Satan towards your body to be defiled and inturn it will defile any service or sacrifice that you do in the body of Christ. When you present your body undefiled, then the fire that you are baptized with will burn in the Altar as an acceptable sacrifice like that of Abel.  Would you like to receive this power of God to overcome the temptations? Ask God and He will give you.

Prov 29:1 He who is often rebuked, and hardens his neck,
Will suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.

Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Many who are born in a Christian family believes in Jesus Christ from their childhood, so how and when they are joined in the new covenant? How do they receive this power of the Holy Spirit to overcome the temptations? Faith in Lord Jesus Christ is a not a question among those who are brought up in a godly way from their childhood. But even though they have faith in their lives, they do not have victory over sin or death. They are trapped in the habitual sins, which they cannot overcome even if they want to. God pulls them through His love on one side because of their faith and sin pulls them in the opposite side because of their carnality.

What will you do? Where is the power of the Holy Spirit in your life if you are in this situation? The key for everyone who is born in Christian family to receive this power of the Holy Spirit is ‘Brokenness’.  You have to allow God the Holy Spirit to break you. Break your carnality, traditions, self righteousness, desire, entertainment, worldly ambitions etc… Once you are willing to surrender your life to be broken, you will see the power of the Holy Spirit come upon you wherever you are. When God the Holy Spirit fills your cup, you will have the power from Him to overcome all temptations. You can see this victory beginning with your habitual sins. Men and women, you who are born in a Christian family, received a privilege or mercy from God the Father to know Jesus Christ in your life in an easier manner. You have the privilege to grow up in faith. If you are not willing to surrender your life to be broken for God’s kingdom, someone else from other religion will take that place and enter into His kingdom. You will be left alone in front of the gates shouting Lord! Lord! Allow yourself to be broken by the Lord; He will give you the power when you need it.

Mat 9:17 Nor do they put new wine into old wineskins, or else the wineskins break, the wine is spilled, and the wineskins are ruined. But they put new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.”

When one hears the gospel, the message of Jesus Christ, he believes in the WAY and faith arises in his heart. When the faith in the Lord comes, process of repentance and sanctification takes place. One should not stop in the belief; they have to give way for the Holy Spirit to break them completely from their self. Some today get convictions because of guilt and not because of faith. These convictions or guilt will not withstand the heat of the discipleship. It will be like a seed that fell among the rocks. Deep conviction, repentance, sanctification and the newness of life all happens in a new disciple of Jesus Christ.  When one’s vessel is purified with water, a new wine is poured in to it; a wine of a new covenant, a blood of life, which gives life and power to the soul, spirit, mind and body. New wine must be poured into the new wineskins. The power of that vessel through its Content is the potent weapon against the gates of hell. The Content in which the vessel is sustained is the power of God manifested among men who trust in Him and born in Him to be God’s children.

Romans 6:8-14 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, 9 knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him. 10 For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. 11 Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord. 12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. 13 And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. 14 For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.

How do you receive this power of God?  If we look at the resurrection of Christ, there are two things happened, He died for sin and rose again for righteousness through the Power of the Holy Spirit to live for God. Likewise, when we are born of God, we die for sin and live for God through Christ.  We die for sin or the redemption from slavery of sin is a process of dying to sin and redeemed to be slaves of righteousness is a process living for God through Christ. Both of this takes place at the same time but with a process to undergo.  What is this process? It is the work of the Holy Spirit. The first work that Jesus mentioned about the work of the Holy Spirit is the conviction of sin (John 16:8). Anyone who is going through this process will undergo a deep conviction of sins they have committed.  When the convictions fall, the blood of Jesus Christ is there for the atonement of ALL sins that a man or woman committed until that date of repentance. This process could come with restoration and or restitution (Like Zacchaeus). Once this process is done then the next stage is the conviction of righteousness. This is where the resurrection or live again in the newness of life begins that is becoming slaves of righteousness to live for God through Christ.  This is the born again process in our life is through the Holy Spirit in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ and according to the will of God.  Contd…

When God spoke to Cain after he murdered Abel, He said in Gen 4:6, “If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.” If we look at this verse at the later part, God says the sin has a desire for you, but you should rule over it. How you can overcome it or rule over it. This is where the power of God is manifested in your life. When we are resurrected in Christ during our repentance and belief (baptized in Lord Jesus Christ), we enter into His death and born again in the newness of life in Christ. When we are born again, we are slaves for the righteousness and not slaves for the unrighteousness, which is sin.

Sin is like a dog, which lies in our door. Some say that if we starve this dog, which is sin, then it will die on its own. We can not consider this strategy towards sin. Because Sin or death can not die however it is starved. It will only be cast out at the final judgment of God (Rev 20:14).  The more it starves the more hungry it gets and more vicious it could be. Your power of ‘self control’ can not overcome this vicious dog. If we are freed from sin during our baptism in the Lord Jesus Christ, why, many of us do not have the power to overcome temptation and fall into sin? It is because many of us are ignorant and not willing to receive the power of the Holy Spirit who works efficiently in every believer of Jesus Christ to overcome temptations.  Contd…

Acts 1: 8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

Act 19:1 And finding some disciples 2 he said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?”

Jesus spoke before His ascension, that ‘you shall receive power’; Paul asks the Ephesians whether you received the Holy Spirit. That means whether you received the power. What is this power of God that you have to receive? Power of God is the ability that is given to us to do God’s will in this earth. One day there was a car broke down in the middle of the road. No one knows what the reason for the breakdown is; but the owner was opening and closing the door of the car and there was a chaos. After sometime, an old man started to push the car so that it could be parked on the side of the road. While he was pushing the car, a young man came running and he helped the old man to push the car.  Likewise, the power of the Holy Spirit is given to every one in the church of Lord Jesus Christ, so that we can all assist one another. One has a different kind of ability and the other one has a different ability but all work for the common cause. If one broke down, some other can lift him up. This is how the power of the Holy Spirit would manifest among us. This ability or the power should not be used for our own benefit. We should not use this power with a covetous mind. But we could use it for our edification to be build up in Christ. If we use this ability with self motive and for exercising power over others, then we will error greatly and will miss power of God and the common goal in our life.

Power of God – Emptiness to Fullness

John 2: 2-3 & 7-8  Now both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding. 3 And when they ran out of wine, the mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no wine.” 7. Jesus said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. 8 And He said to them, “Draw some out now, and take it to the master of the feast.”

When we look at most of the miracles and wonders that Jesus our Lord did while He ministered the people, there is one common thing that we can observe. Emptiness to fullness. When the wine in the marriage of Cana emptied to the last drop, the power of God manifested and the fullness witnessed. When there is no food to eat, then there is a blessing of five loaves and two fishes into abundance. When there is no money to pay the tax, God opened the mouth of the fish. The power of God gives us the fullness, abundance and blessedness when we are empty in any regard. Many today do not witness power of God in their life is because they do not realize that they are empty. Satan blinds their eyes with fullness of filth (temporary blessing) in their life and gives them a false hope that they are full. When you are empty, lacking something, in need of relationship or lack of health, go to the Savior Jesus Christ. He is the fullness of God and in Him resides all fullness. He will turn the empty situation in to fullness, which abounds and stays permanent with you. Power of God will manifest in your emptiness when you do not seek to fill your emptiness with the worldly knowledge but with the knowledge of Jesus Christ your Lord.

Power of God – When you are weak

Isa 40:29 He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength.

God’s power will be manifested when you are weak or few in numbers. Gideon went against a great army with few men. Comparing to the human standards of war, his army is weak before their enemy. But God gave them a great victory. His power manifested among them, so that His name be glorified in the midst of His children. God chose weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty (I Cor 1:27).  Are you feeling weak today both spiritually and physically? God is pointing you to the above scripture. He gives power to the weak. When you are weak and fully trust in the Lord, you can see the power of God manifested in your life. Zech 4:6“‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ Says the Lord of hosts”. The manifestation of His power does not depend on your might. Especially when you are weak, you see the enemies are raging against you and the flood of temptation overwhelming you that is when you have to hide under His wings for the power of Holy Spirit to be manifested. The life of hiding under the wings of God is a glorious life, a victorious life. Spring forth you Israel, for the Lord your God is your shield and your power. He makes the weak strong and the prideful weak. He will make your hands strong for war and He will equip you in due season. Rejoice in the Lord and roar like a lion with the voice of thanksgiving. He will increase your spiritual strength and remove all your physical weakness. Trust in God, Hide in the Lord Jesus Christ, stand forth and see how the power of the Holy Spirit works in you. All glory to God Almighty. Amen.

Power of God – During persecution and pressures

Dan 3:16-18&25 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego answered and said to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. 17 If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king. 18 But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up.” 25 “Look!” he answered, “I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire; and they are not hurt, and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.”

We can see throughout scriptures godly men and women who did not bow down to the idols because of pressure from the higher authorities. One such example is Shadrach Meshach and Abed Nego.  When king Nebuchadnezzar formed an idol with gold, he ordered everyone in his province should bow down before this idol, no exceptions. If anyone who do not worship the idol, they would be thrown into the furnace of fire. These three men did not obey this order.  The order is from the king’s authority, the pressure is high.  Those who stood beside must have said ‘it is just a statue, why can’t you bow down before it even though you do not sincerely do it; God only sees your heart!’  However, these three men did not want to please the king or his command or to compromise themselves. Why? Because they are very zealous for the LORD God Almighty. They want to obey His fist commandment that was given to them through Moses. This shows how they loved God even to their death. When they were given another chance to save their life, they did not fell for that snare either. This shows their steadfastness in what they believe. They were thrown into the fire, but what happened, God’s power manifested in the furnace in front of the king and all who saw that incident. Jesus said in Luke 17:33 “Whoever seeks to save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it.” If we take this as the foundation of our love and faith towards our God and our Lord, then we should be ready to stand up against any pressures or compromise that is arising in our midst and churches. Sometimes having faith only in heart won’t cut out. Faith without works is dead. When we really love our God and obey His commandments then our faith will be tested. When it is tested then we should stand steadfastly in the Lord to overcome all enemy’s pressures and compromise. If we do this then we can see the power of God manifested even when we walk through persecution or furnace of fire.

Power of God: Stand alone for Truth, not for the idols of your heart

Isa 40: 18-20 To whom then will you liken God? Or what likeness will you compare to Him? 19 The workman molds an image, The goldsmith overspreads it with gold, And the silversmith casts silver chains. 20 Whoever is too impoverished for such a contribution Chooses a tree that will not rot; He seeks for himself a skillful workman To prepare a carved image that will not totter.

2 Cor 10:4-5 (KJV) For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds; 5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

2 Cor 4:6-7

For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. 7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us.

Elijah a man of God who was fed everyday during the famine by miraculous ways was now standing alone in the Mount Carmel. He called upon the prophets of Baal and challenged them to prove their idol’s power. The prophets of Baal did not see the power of their idol because the idol is nothing but an imagination of their own heart to mimic the true God in their life. When their heart’s imagination failed, they do not know what to do; they hurt themselves to give life to their own imagination by their own blood. Many Christians keep ‘Jesus’ as their imagination of their own heart. This is due to traditions and false hope and visions that they were forced to accept by their way of traditions or by parents. Imagination is like a formation of image in their mind about God through their perceived working of God or by a set of rules that needs to be followed for God to be formed inside of their heart. This is like how a workman molds the material (wood, metal or anything that could be molded or formed) to form an idol by his own imagination of how its hand should be, how its face should be and all these are the imagination of the molder. The same thing happens if we imagine Jesus in our heart with some set of predefined instructions or false imaginations from the visions or dreams. When we have ‘Jesus’ like this in our imagination, we can not stand alone for the truth. We would not see the power of God manifested in our life like prophets of Baal. Do not compromise your precocious life with your imagination of the traditions or rules, but cast down all imaginations in the feet of Jesus Christ our Lord and stand for the truth (Knowledge of Christ Jesus) that is revealed through the word of God. When you stand alone for truth, you will see the power of God manifested in your life in both miraculous and in ordinary way of life.  Elijah stood alone; God sent His fire to consume the imaginations of the people around to look at the True Almighty God. Would you stand for truth and be a fire for others who will see the True God and our Lord Jesus Christ through you?
