Gen 32: 6-7 & 26Then the messengers returned to Jacob, saying, “We came to your brother Esau, and he also is coming to meet you, and four hundred men are with him.” So Jacob was greatly afraid and distressed; and he divided the people that were with him, and the flocks and herds and camels, into two companies…And He said, “Let Me go, for the day breaks.” But he said, “I will not let You go unless You bless me!”

When Jacob returned to Canaan, he was afraid of Esau because he was coming to him with four hundred men. Jacob was greatly afraid and distressed; there is no one to help him. Though he had wealth, he knew that it would not help his life. Therefore, he turned to God who appeared to him in a dream at Bethel.  When there is no hope, he wrestled with God and did not let Him go until He blessed him. He never let go of God until he was assured of His blessing.  Many times, we just pray and forget about certain things, but sometimes if there was life and death situation, we pray every day and try to receive freedom from the situation. If we want see the power of God manifested in us, we have to hang on to God like how Jacob did. Whether the issue calls for big or small help, we have to turn to God and should not leave God until we receive an answer for it. Jacob hung on to God when he lost all his hope. God intervened. Likewise, God’s power will be manifested in our life, if we lose our hope in our wealth or power and turn to Him completely with a thirst for blessing.
