Rev 2:3-5 and you have persevered and have patience, and have labored for My name’s sake and have not become weary.4 Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love.5 Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent.

Here the Spirit of God telling to the church of the Ephesus that they have lost their first love. The indicator of losing the first love is that we do not enjoy the relationship with Jesus Christ as we did on day one of our salvation. If the joy that we had on the beginning is not the same or more today, then we lost that first love. So what is God telling us to do, Repent and do the first works. If we look at the life of David, after he sinned the Psalm he wrote he writes like this “Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, And uphold me by Your generous Spirit.” Joy in the Lord and rejoicing always in His presence is a good indicator of our spiritual standing before God. If at anytime we do lose the joy then we are going down the ladder towards backslidden state. But if our joy is becoming more and more full in Christ, then we are climbing the spiritual ladder. Joy in our life that we received through the gift of God is such a crucial thing in our spiritual walk. If you have sinned, then repent and turn back to God and ask Him to restore the Joy in your life. John 16:24 “Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.” When we ask Jesus Christ to restore our Joy, He will give you in such way that your joy may be full in Him.
