Rom 5:18 Therefore, as through one man’s offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man’s righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life.
Whether it is new covenant or old, faith is there from the beginning. Hebrews 11 describes that. By faith Abel offered and excellent sacrifice; by faith Noah built the ark, by faith Abraham receive the promise etc… Faith was there from the beginning when God created sons of men. God established His name with Moses as God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. He identified Himself through their faith. Irrespective of covenants or God’s righteousness faith was evident in the life of the children of God. This shows by faith only you can access the grace of God. Rom 5:2 explains that. The difference between old and new comes through the justification by faith. In the old before the laws, obedience to the word of God proved a man to be righteous and God justified like men of Abel, Lamech, Noah, Abraham etc… When the law came, people who obeyed the law justified through the obedience to the law and the word of God through the prophets. But in New Covenant, we are not justified by the deeds of obedience but by one Son of Man, who is the Son of God Jesus Christ. Even If we obey and do good deeds we are not eligible for salvation because of the middle wall between the chosen people and the gentiles. But Jesus, the Son of God, came to break the middle wall of separation and there by those who believe in Him were all justified through Him. The faith that has access to grace was imputed in us through Jesus Christ. When we are in His body that is when we take that faith and enter into the grace of God. That is why the justification by faith which we received is called as ‘gift of God’. Through this faith we enter into the realm of grace.
Thought of the Day: So let’s go back to the original question. If we who are in Christ Jesus mess up and did not continue in the original path and took an alternate path can we come back?
