Luke 3:2-6

as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, saying: “The voice of one crying in the wilderness:

‘Prepare the way of the Lord;
Make His paths straight.
Every valley shall be filled
And every mountain and hill brought low;
The crooked places shall be made straight
And the rough ways smooth;
And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.’”

In this New Year you are not receiving a promise but receiving a task from the Lord.

  • A task of making crooked paths straight according to God’s purpose
  • A task of making crooked paths straight by going through the path of wilderness

For this task, you have to go to the wilderness to take up this appointment. Are you ready?

Why do we have to go to wilderness to make the path straight? In the wilderness there are valleys and mountains. These are the ones that need to be straightened and smoothed for God’s purpose. John the Baptist was sent before Christ to make the path straight for Him. He made the crooked path straight and made the highway for the entry of Jesus Christ. He completed his gospel of repentance and then Christ came and spread the good news, which is the gospel of Jesus Christ in which there is redemption and salvation through Him. Likewise God might want to use us for the proclamation of the gospel or it could be helping somebody in their valleys and be an instrument to straighten them or it could be simply praying in the closet for other’s deliverance.

Now this year God is inviting us to be an instrument in others lives instead of receiving a promise for our own life. A man’s heart always sees other men, how they are and what they do. Many times, the witness that comes from a character of a Christian can either prepare one’s heart towards Christ or shun them from Christ. So I believe God is asking us to display Christ like character in our life, and through our life He will change the crookedness in others life to a smooth path.

Let us be a person, who can light up a small light in one’s darkness; who can share the love of Christ to another person who is depressed and neglected; who can make the crooked paths straight even though it meant that we need to go into the wilderness from our comfort zone.

We should not go alone, but go to the place where the Spirit of the Lord takes us like Philip in the book of Acts. If we go alone then we are doing through our flesh. But if we go in the power of the Holy Spirit then we are going to make crooked path straight through God the Father and in the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.

When God appoints wilderness in your life with or without your understanding, do not shun the wilderness appointment. Do not fear that you have sinned and that is why you are going round in the wilderness like the Israelites. The wilderness appointment of yours could lead to great blessing in others life according to the purpose of God and in the power of the Holy Spirit. Trust in the Lord’s leading and make the path straight for others. Be a blessing in others lives and be blessed in this New Year. Amen
