James 4: 11, 12

Brothers and sisters, do not slander one another. Anyone who speaks against a brother or sister or judges them speaks against the law and judges it. When you judge the law, you are not keeping it, but sitting in judgment on it. 12 There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy. But you—who are you to judge your neighbor?

Many today speaks about another person and they speak mainly evil about them because either they are doing some harm or some doctrinal issues or something that they don’t like. With social media is on the rise, this sin is easy to do and be heard by many.

This is exactly opposite to the way our Lord Jesus followed.

Did Jesus washed Judas feet? Yes

Did Jesus spoke evil about Judas directly mentioning his name? No (Mark 14:20, 21)

If our Lord who is the righteous Judge did not speak evil about Judas, how much more we should control our tongue?

Even though evil men do evil works behind the scenes, even though they are devilish in their heart, we should discern it and escape from their snares; but do not speak evil about an individual. The works of darkness should be exposed by our works of light and not by slandering. The truth that you speak will expose the works of darkness. Many today directly accusing an individual saying that they are exposing the darkness, but this will bring great disunity and dissension among God’s children. Unless in a fellowship, you have spiritual authority over certain individual, you don’t have to name the individual (2 Tim 2:17). Even the rebuke should be done by Lord’s leading and gentleness. When you see the leaven in the doctrine or works of darkness in your midst, then it is time for you to rise up from the sleep and display the work of righteousness (Epe 5:14). The light will manifest the works of darkness and the children of light will discern it easily.  Do not fight against God with this sin. Jesus said in Mat 12:25-30 “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand…He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters abroad”. Our Lord will gather the good grains and burn the weeds when He reaps the harvest.

Slandering gives an opening for devil to enter our life and from that point onwards we will face problems in our life. When we go to God in prayer for those issues to be resolved, it will not be answered by God, because the sin of slandering is not dealt within us. We will be fighting in the air through our fervent prayer.  If you are praying for something and you have not received, then ask God to show you the missing piece. He will convict you if there are any unconfessed sins, and then you would be in a place to receive His blessings after you confess and stay away from those sins. May the Lord of heavenly hosts protect us from slandering and give us control in our tongue and in our attitude. Amen.
