Num 14:14 They have heard that You, Lord, are among these people; that You, Lord, are seen face to face and Your cloud stands above them, and You go before them in a pillar of cloud by day and in a pillar of fire by night.
PS 68: 34 Ascribe strength to God; His excellence is over Israel, And His strength is in the clouds.
So far, by God’s grace we have meditated some basics on God’s leading. This month we will start meditating on the basics of understanding the will of God. There is a difference between leading of God and the will of God.
Before we look at the difference, we need to understand what is will of God, how does He represent it and how do we know about it. To understand the will of God we need to look into the life of the Israelites who started the journey in the wilderness towards their Promised Land. If we see in Ex 12:21, God established a pillar of cloud and a pillar of fire for His people. The cloud was always above the camp of the Israelites until they reached the Promised Land. This establishment of the cloud above them and around the camp of His people represents the will of God.
In other words, a fence that God establishes around His people for their safety, guidance, fellowship and providence is the will of God. The perimeter that God establishes through His wings for a believer’s life is the will of God. We can also look at it like a sheepfold, in which the flocks can rest, graze and enjoy the goodness and protection of the Owner of the fold. If a person is inside the fold then he/she is inside the will of God and if a believer is outside the fold then he/she is outside the will of God.
Israelites were always under the cloud and the pillar of cloud and fire always led them throughout their journey. Whenever they went outside the camp without the pillar of cloud moving along with them, they had trouble and failure. Likewise, we have to be always under the will of God and operated under that perimeter of His will in order to please Him and to escape from the condemnation, which is reserved for the wicked in the last days.
