Luke 9:41 – O faithless and perverse generation how long shall I be with you and bear with you?
If we are not able to hear Him because of our sin or our laziness or our fatness in our heart, then this will be His longingness towards the children of God. How long shall I be with you and bear with you? Without hearing, we cannot build our faith. One of the works of the Holy Spirit is to remind us what our Lord Jesus Christ spoke. He will bring to our remembrance what He spoke to His disciples and to this world. If we don’t hear it, then our faith that began in us will die or will not grow more than that. Without faith, we could go into complaining mode like the children of Israel (Num 14:27). He longs for us to have trust in Him and not to complain by comparing the world (faithless). It is impossible to please God without faith (Heb 11:6). He will be displeased with us, if we are not executing our faith. We should not compare with others; if we do, then our hearts will be weighed down with the complaints and we may not allow Him to explain His purpose for our life through His voice. He wants us all to execute our faith in boldness without comparing or complaining under the authority of the name Jesus Christ. His name is powerful and we need to trust in Him.
Song of Solomon 5:2 – I sleep, but my heart is awake; It is the voice of my beloved! He knocks, saying, “Open for me, my sister, my love, My dove, my perfect one; For my head is covered with dew, My locks with the drops of the night.”
When the Holy Spirit wants have fellowship with us, He is calling us by knocking our door. Opening our door is not all about salvation but it is to allow Him to have a conversation with us. His willing and compassionate voice always resonates in our hearts when we open the door for Him. It is like somebody calling you over the phone; your heart will get a ring or hear the knock when He wants to talk to you. I sleep but my heart is awake. We have to keep our heart always awake for the Spirit of Christ. Laziness of our heart will deny His fellowship. If we deny His fellowship, how can we receive the guidance from Him? If we could not hear His voice when our soul is at rest, how can we hear His voice during the stormy season? We will be a wandering ship without no guide and no direction and will be expecting the word of God from somebody else like King Saul did (I Sam 28:15). If this happens in our life, we are heading for a severe collision. How much the devil made us lazy and or tired; he is paralyzing our heart with food, drink, TV, worldly entertainment and much more. If we took his bait, then we are missing something that is wonderful only the children of the living and loving God, can experience. How much more we are at loss if we lose this opportunity to have a lively conversation with the Holy Spirit. The testimony of the Father about His Son is in Luke 9:35 “This is My beloved Son.Hear Him!” Are we awake in our heart to hear Him, could we shed out our laziness and be always ready to hear Him?
Gen 3:9 – Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?”
The Spirit of the LORD is asking many of us this question, why are you trying to hide from Me? Why are you dodging from Me? The scripture clearly tell us in Ps 139, where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If we cannot flee from His presence what is the use of hiding from Him?
What makes us to hide? It is the sin and the darkness in our heart makes us to hide. Adam hid himself from the LORD because of his sin. However, if we have the boldness in our spirit that was given to us by the Holy Spirit through our Lord Jesus Christ, we will not hide ourselves but boldly confess it and receive the forgiveness. After our repentance, we may not have to hide from Him. We can have fellowship with Him. This is the one of the longing of the Holy Spirit. He longs for our fellowship, why don’t we repent and turn to Him who can give us eternal life and guide us in this world. We cannot have fellowship with both darkness and light. Come to the light as you are and He will make you whole.
Psalm 29:4 – The voice of the Lord is powerful; The voice of the Lord is full of majesty.
In this Psalm, King David explains the holiness and the power of the voice of the LORD. How many of us realize that this power resides and willing to strengthen us in the Lord? The Holy Spirit is willing and ready to have fellowship with us in order to explain the scriptures, to explain the counsel of God for us. Many of us are ignorant in utilizing the power that is given to us by the promise of the Father fully. Holy Spirit is longing to talk to His people. He is waiting for us every day and night with longsuffering and with groaning. If we don’t hear, how can we know the truth? if we don’t know the truth, how can we obey? If we don’t obey, how can we work for the kingdom of God? One of the key thing to grow in the Lord is to walk in the Spirit (Gal 5:25). If we need to walk then we need to be led by Him; if we need to be led by Him, we need to know what He wants us to do in a particular situation. He is longing to give us this guidance. Let us meditate for few days about the voice of God and how we may be able to listen to Him.
II Cor 2:14-16
14 Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. 15 For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing. 16 To the one we are the aroma of death leading to death, and to the other the aroma of life leading to life.
In a crowded area or someone standing near us, we tend to check ourselves whether we are emitting any bad breath or bad smell from our body. We are doing this because we do not want others to smell anything bad from us. When we are much aware of this body fragrance in our everyday life, how much more we need to be aware of the fragrance that we emit from our spirit?
Paul says that God diffuses or spreads the fragrance of His Son’s knowledge through us in Christ. If we do not know Christ, then how we can be the perfume that spreads the knowledge of Christ in midst of those who are being saved and those who are perishing? We are in this world to spread the aroma of the incense (prayer) which will be pleasing to God and the fragrance of the Knowledge of Christ to others. Christ is smelled as a fragrance of death for those who did not chose the Way and He is smelled as a fragrance of eternal life among those who believed in Him.
When you share to others what you know about Christ through what you gained in your spiritual life that is when you are emitting the fragrance of the knowledge of Christ to others. If they scoff at you, then they know Him as death and if they believed, they know Him as Life. Death and Life in others (those who are being saved and those who are perishing) life are in our hands. We are the light and the salt of the earth, we illuminate ourselves with the light and be a light in others life to find the WAY. At the same time, we have to live a life of salt, which is a separated and holy life to God, and be a preservative in the life of others through our prayers and earnest intercessions.
Let us take a stand today to gain the knowledge of Christ by setting aside some time among our busy schedule, to fellowship with God through His Holy Spirit.

7 But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ. 8 Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith; 10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, 11 if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.
How can we summarize this topic? We can write all the theologies we want or talk about it for hours; but if these and much more to come through the Holy Spirit is not reality in our life or atleast we start implementing these in our life, then knowledge of Christ is a distant relative to us.
Overall, we need to live the ‘law of Nazirite’ through Grace. ‘Law’ through ‘Grace’ what is the meaning of it? Compare Num 6:6-8 with Luke 9:59-62 and Luke 14:25-33. This is discipleship. A disciple should know his Master. Without entering into a discipleship, he may not know what is the teaching of the Master or what is it He wants him/her to do. To know Christ we need to forsake ALL; otherwise, it will be a distant reality for us. Like Paul, to gain knowledge of Him, he counted everything as rubbish, and he did not place his confidence on the flesh, but on the Spirit of God. Why did he have to do that? So that he will be found in Him. In other words, our Lord Jesus Christ knows him and he will be eligible to meet the Lord at the day of His coming and enter in to His rest. Let us grow in Christ by knowing Him more and become more into His likeness, so that we shall reap the rewards for eternal.
Jer 4:22“For My people are foolish, They have not known Me. They are silly children, And they have no understanding. They are wise to do evil, But to do good they have no knowledge.”
Ps 119:65-67 You have dealt well with Your servant, O LORD, according to Your word. 66 Teach me good judgment and knowledge, For I believe Your commandments. 67 Before I was afflicted I went astray,
But now I keep Your word.
John 14:22-23 22 Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, “Lord, how is it that You will manifest Yourself to us, and not to the world?” 23 Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. 24 He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father’s who sent Me.
Whether we know Christ personally or not, knowing Christ through the word of God is a well-known fact in our life. These words were uttered and written through holy men of God when they are moved by the Holy Spirit to portray the characteristics of Christ, His likes and dislikes and how we ought to live our life if it needs to be pleasing Him. How this does becomes reality in our life?It is through our fellowship and earnest eagerness. Without fellowship with Christ through the Holy Spirit, these words will not come to life in our life. These will be mere words and the effects of these words will not be reality if our fellowship is irregular or for namesake. If an unmarried man or woman reads an article about intricacies of marriage, it will be just words in his/her mind, because he/she did not enter in a relationship through marriage. On the other hand, if a woman is engaged to a man, she might be very much eager to know about the likes and dislikes of her groom. She may read it, keep it in her heart, and perform according to what she came to know before, after the marriage. If she does so, the groom will be more pleased with her action. Likewise, the word of God is in our midst. If we are not born again to enter in to a fellowship with our Groom, then there is no chance for us to understand first of all or there is no necessity to perform what we came to know about the Groom through reading it. If we are not entering in to this new covenant, there will not be any eagerness in our life to know about Him and to perform our acts according to His likes and dislikes. In short, we need to have the eagerness to know about Him and be baptized in to this new covenant to have fellowship with Christ. When this happens in our life, the word of God will come to reality in our life and we live in the WORD.
36 “Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.” 37 Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?” 38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”
If we see in the life of Peter after the day of his baptism of the Holy Spirit, he boldly spoke about Christ, convicted many souls, and guided them in to the path of salvation. God the Holy Spirit, not only convict and guide us in our personal life, but also He helps us to convict and guide others through the manifestation of His gifts.
When we have to convict or guide someone else, we need more boldness and clarity within ourselves. This is what the Spirit of God gives us when He flows in us. The more He flow in us, the more His manifestation will be through us. What does it have to do about knowing Christ?
The revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ has to be granted by the Father (Rev 1:1). If it is not granted, then no one can know about His Son. Likewise, the guidance and the counsel are also from the presence of God. Granted by the Father, the Spirit of God will act in our life from the beginning of our spiritual birth and then continuing in our everyday life. In this process of sanctification and counseling, He teaches us more about Christ and His ways and what He likes and what He dislikes. This is how we gain knowledge at a quick pace about Christ to its fullness. If you are not baptized in the Holy Spirit, ask for it. Ask and you shall receive it, and then see for yourself what it is all about the quickening process to gain knowledge of Christ.
