Proverbs 16:6 In mercy and truth Atonement is provided for iniquity; And by the fear of the Lord one departs from evil.

Job 28:28 And to man He said, ‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, And to depart from evil is understanding.’”

The sons of Eli did not fear God and performed many evil things in the house of the Lord. Nadab and Abihu brought profane fire before the Lord. If we see these incidents, in both scenarios, sons of Eli and sons of Aaron were called to do the work of God in the tabernacle as a priest. Both did what was evil in the sight of the Lord and were perished by the hand of the Lord. What is missing from them even when they are working for God as a priest? The fear of the LORD is missing. In the case of the sons of Eli, God said in I Sam 3:14 “… the iniquity of Eli’s house shall not be atoned for by sacrifice or offering forever” The sons of Eli rejected God, did not have the fear about God, and pushed their limit that there is no more atonement for them. When all these things happened, they were not able to obey the voice of their Father because God desired to kill them (I Sam 2:24). Prov 16:6 says “…And by the fear of the Lord one departs from evil” If we do not have this basic foundational character in us, we would be bold to do evil things in the sight of the Lord, even in the church and its related activities.  We can see today and hear many reports about this. Men who serve God in the name of Pastor or priest or committee member, they steal money from the offerings, they commit sexual immorality, they speak deceit words to steal their jewels and money from them, all in the name of Jesus and His church. Such bold activities are performed, because of the lack of fear of the LORD. All such men who once anointed by God, received the Holy Spirit and enjoyed the goodness of God will face the judgment of God. Many can speak about ‘in depth’ truth in their sermon, but if they lack the fear of God then there is no wisdom in that sermon and it will not produce any understanding to the hearers.  Fear of God should not leave us. If it leaves from our character and in our approach to Christ’s work, then we will be automatically out of His will.

John 13:34-35 “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Whatever we do in words or in deeds let that all be done in love. Any burden for the soul should be based on love and not because of compulsion or self righteousness or self gratification. When we are working in the God’s kingdom according to the will of God, all the tasks that we do should be based on the word and/or revelation, faith and love.  Faith works through love that is the indication of born again. Establishment in the Lord is also based on love. Love, attribute to both spiritual and physical needs. Try to understand love through godly perspective and not through the world. The roots of the worldly love are based on the ruler of the world and many times, it will deceive you rather than build you in Christ. However, the roots of godly love are in Jesus Christ. Let us all pray that we should understand the biblical love correctly and do according to what God wants us to do in any given situation following the pattern of our Lord Jesus Christ, His Apostles and His church.

1 Corinthians 16:13: Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong.

In these last days where truth and true love are diminishing day by day, we ought to stand fast in our faith. One of the things you will immediately notice when you became a child of God is the test of faith that is standing on all corners of your life. If you do not see it then you are in a wrong way. The True Way the Way of Christ is full of these tests to harness our senses and our hearts in the Lord. This gives greater understanding of the Knowledge of our Lord to grow more spiritually in the inward man. Even if the enemy condemns you, stand fast in the faith and you will see deliverance from the accuser. The chaos and confusion of our heart is all because of the test of faith and once we stood fast in our faith, those will flee away. The work we do in the Lord is based on this. If we are shaken then our work for the kingdom of God will be shaken. We have to be bold, watchful, relying on grace and pray exceedingly so that we will not be shaken by the tests that come in our way.

Philippians 4:1 Therefore, my beloved and longed-for brethren, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, beloved.

I John 2:28 And now, little children, abide in Him, that whenHe appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming.

John 15:4 Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.

Stand fast in the in the Lord. The Lord said, “Without Me you can do nothing”. Without established in Him as a branch, then we can not yield any fruits from our spiritual life. How do we know that we are in Him? By loving Him. How do we love Him? By obeying His commandments. If we confess and testify Jesus Christ is the Son of God and sent by the Father, then God abides in us and us in Him. Why do we have to abide in Him? Without Him, we can not do anything. We need the energy, power, stamina to endure, to overcome this world and the viles of the devil. If we were established outside of Him, we would be like a reed that will be uprooted when a strong wind is blown. If we are not established in Him, then we are outside the will of God. If there is disobedience then we are trying to live outside of Him. If our hearts desire the pleasures of this world, then we are not worthy of Jesus Christ. But if we are established in Him through our yielding of our life, then He will guard us from all evil and make sure that we reach our goal safely and in abundance of fruits.

When talking about God’s will most of us tend to think about ministry, tasks, or natural living according to God’s desire. Most of us seek God’s will on this area of deeds that is going to be done for the kingdom of God and their earthly living associated with it. This is only one side of the coin. There is another side of the coin in understanding God’s will. God’s will comprise of two sides:

  • Servanthood or servants of the kingdom of God
  • Children or sons of the kingdom of God

Servanthood: Represents the task that we are doing for the kingdom of God according to His will. This we have seen so far and many can relate with their everyday life.

Sons of the Kingdom: This represents the character of ours in the kingdom of God according to the will of God to be called as the sons of God.

Many concentrate on the work that they do for Him should be according to the will of God. However, how many of us ever thought that our character should be according to the will of God, which represents that we are the sons of God.  If our character is out of His will, our work will not have value like the value of the one sided coin. Even if we do the work according to the will of God, if our character does not aligned under the will of God then all the work that is done is waste of time. Let me put it another way; if our character is not under the perimeter of His will, the work that we do according to the will of God will be drifted dangerously away from the will of God and finally end up outside the perimeter of God’s fence. Therefore, brothers and sisters, we will spend some time on meditating this important side of the will of God, before we conclude this topic of God’s will.

In Mat 13:24-30, the enemy planted tares along the wheat. Likewise, the enemy will also implant some ways which is identical to the ways of the God but the end the devil’s way always lead us out of the will of God. We may have many tunnels or ways to reach what God wants us to do under His will for His kingdom. But among those tunnels there are some tunnels which may look identical to the real one but was constructed and placed before us by the enemy. If we by accidentally or by the looks of it enter into it, that tunnel will lead us out of God’s will. The end of the enemy’s tunnel would lead us outside the perimeter of God. That is how sometimes we find ourselves outside the will of God in our spirit. If you are outside His perimeter and you are a child of God then you are in a vulnerable position. So it is better to repent reconcile and get back into the perimeter. If you are half way and you realize that is not the right path, just turn back and start fresh. If you cannot turn back, rely on God’s grace, repent and ask Holy Spirit to lead you back into the will of God. To avoid this, let us not go behind religiosity or external manifestation of supernatural powers or someone who wears a mask of prophet and foretelling the way that you should go. All these traps of the enemy will look good from the outside, but once you are in, then you are lost in wilderness. God loves His children; He gives them freewill to roam around inside the perimeter of His will. Let us be watchful and sober to identify enemy’s tunnel and avoid them.

Gen 13:10-13 And Lot lifted his eyes and saw all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere (before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah) like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt as you go toward Zoar. 11 Then Lot chose for himself all the plain of Jordan, and Lot journeyed east. And they separated from each other. 12 Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelt in the cities of the plain and pitched his tent even as far as Sodom. 13 But the men of Sodom were exceedingly wicked and sinful against the Lord.

2 Peter 2:6-10 “…and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those who afterward would live ungodly; 7 and delivered righteous Lot, who was oppressed by the filthy conduct of the wicked 8 (for that righteous man, dwelling among them, tormented his righteous soul from day to day by seeing and hearing their lawless deeds)— 9 then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment, 10 and especially those who walk according to the flesh in the lust of uncleanness and despise authority.”

Abraham gave Lot a choice to select his place of living when there was a dispute among their servants. When Lot looked at many places, he saw Sodom a very good place for living and for his cattle. He chose that place, went, and lived in. The scripture says that the people of that place oppressed Lot with their wicked ways and thoughts. Even after going into captivity, Lot did not select somewhere else to live but persisted with his selection. The message here is there are many places for him to choose and he chose to live among the wicked. Even after knowing that the place is wicked, he did not moved from that place but went and gave his daughters in marriage in midst of the wicked land.

Likewise, many in our times are being struck in a land where there is more wickedness than ever before. When they chose this land, they looked at the prosperity, lifestyle and comfort of living. After they settled, they can not go elsewhere because of their children’s education or given their children into marriage with the locals, bought property and assets or simply too difficult to give up the comfort of the lifestyle that the land offers them. Even in their hearts, they know that there is going to be an impending punishment on the land by God; they are unwilling to give up the comfort. Many are oppressed because of the wickedness in the land, which roam around freely when they want to live a holy life for God. The sad part of it, they did not know it is an oppression from the enemy and not the physical aliment.  If anyone who want to know the will of God to move from a place, which they chose before because of various reasons, pray earnestly about it and heed the voice of the Holy Spirit and His leading in this matter. If you delay then you may have to leave all your possessions as Lot did and leave in a hurry.

2 Sam 5:17-20 & 22-25

17 Now when the Philistines heard that they had anointed David king over Israel, all the Philistines went up to search for David. And David heard of it and went down to the stronghold. 18 The Philistines also went and deployed themselves in the Valley of Rephaim. 19 So David inquired of the Lord, saying, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will You deliver them into my hand?”And the Lord said to David, “Go up, for I will doubtless deliver the Philistines into your hand.” 20 So David went to Baal Perazim, and David defeated them there; 22 Then the Philistines went up once again and deployed themselves in the Valley of Rephaim. 23 Therefore David inquired of the Lord, and He said, “You shall not go up; circle around behind them, and come upon them in front of the mulberry trees. 24 And it shall be, when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees, then you shall advance quickly. For then the Lord will go out before you to strike the camp of the Philistines.” 25 And David did so, as the Lord commanded him; and he drove back the Philistines from Geba as far as Gezer.

We are ready to dash in to the battle. We believe that we are responsive to the Lord and His direction in faith. But there are certain times in our life when we are in that level, but still we may find ourselves with lots of options. After we knew the will of the Lord, and trying to execute it in faith, we may find that there are many ways to execute the task. Now which way do we choose? To understand this, we have to understand God’s leading.

Imagine God’s will is like a fence that has a perimeter defined. Inside that perimeter, many tunnels lead to different directions. The end of most of the tunnels is still under the perimeter of that fence. There may be many routes or tunnels that can take you from point A to B. You can choose any one according to your best judgment, but God’s way and leading are more precise than what we think. He will direct us to choose one route or tunnel to reach point B. Why He is doing so? Why He is not allowing us to leave it to our best Judgment in choosing the route? This is where most of us missing God’s fine leading. God is still OK in your best righteous Judgment, but He wants His wisdom to be manifested in you so that you can be called children of Most High God. Daniel was seen apart from all the rulers and the satraps in the kingdom, because an excellent spirit was in him (Dan 6:3).  Daniel’s Excellency was manifested among others, which made him to stand above par of the others when He followed fine guidelines of the Lord by dreams visions and interpretations.

If we look at the life of King David, he inquired God about everything he wanted to execute, even if he is going for the battle with the same enemy and same place. With his general best judgment, he can call his own shots, but he did not do that and relied on God’s wisdom and His approval before any tasks. That is why he is called ‘man after God’s own heart’.  Both our general judgment and God’s fine leading may lead us to the same point B. However, if we still listened to God for that utmost detail and His fine leading, His glory will be manifested and His leading will stand above any man’s wisdom.
