John 13: 36-38
John 14:1 “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.
Luke 24:48-49 And you are witnesses of these things. 49 Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.”
Our Lord said “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me…” He said this after Peter wanted to follow Him to the sufferings that He is about to go through. Many like Peter would take a resolution in this New Year to follow Jesus Christ or to grow in the Lord more or to come closer to God etc… To those of you who are taking a resolution like these, our Lord asks “Will you lay down your life for My sake?” This is not easy but simple. How? Our Lord gave a hint to Peter before he said that he will lay down his life for His sake. What is that hint? Verse 36, Jesus answered him, “Where I am going you cannot follow Me now, but you shall follow Me afterward”. ‘Afterward’ is the key here to notice. Peter laid down his life for Christ’s sake later in his life as our Lord said. But what happened from the time of denial to the time of his sufferings? It is the endowment of the ‘Power from on high’ is what changed him altogether. The power of the Holy Spirit gave him the boldness and the power to follow Him in His pattern of sufferings. So now if you have taken a resolution this New Year, the question here to stand on that resolution is, did you receive the power of the Holy Spirit?
The path ahead is not smooth; it is full of challenges and sufferings for a disciple of Jesus Christ. In this situation, our Lord promise to us is “Let not your heart be troubled”. Believe in God and in our Lord Jesus Christ also and all things are possible with God. He will give you the boldness and the strength to endure the sufferings ahead through the power of the Holy Spirit and give you His peace abundantly that you will receive the reward in His glory. I pray to God Almighty Father that this New Year enables us to follow Jesus Christ in all situations with the power of the Holy Spirit and enable us to stand as a witness to our Lord Jesus Christ through ups and down. Amen
