Scripture Passage: John 6:60-71
67.Then Jesus said to the twelve, “Do you also want to go away?”
Contd. From yesterday’s thought:
Second thing that is happening here was the lack of understanding.
Many understood what He was talking about His flesh and blood, but they did not understand the revelation in it. What is revelation in this context? It is the ability to see through His words to eternity. Meaning, they could not understand His words in the context of eternal life; they were thinking about the human flesh and blood. Likewise many read the bible everyday and some memorizes it. Reading along with revelation will enable us to understand God’s word to eternal life. If this is not happening, then what we understood about the scriptures would be in the realm of carnality. This lack of understanding will manifest in our life when we are faced with a turning point situation. Some may ask how one can know all the things in the scriptures correctly. The answer is: we don’t have to understand all the things in scriptures but what we ought to have all the time this one thing. The twelve disciples did not understand all the things that Jesus spoke among them. They did not understand His power. They did not understand His death and resurrection. But what they had was ‘FAITH’. They all had faith in Lord Jesus Christ except for the son of perdition. They believed that He is the Son of the Living God. They trusted that His words will give them eternal life whether they understood it or not. This means, that it is not that we don’t have to understand God’s words. Understanding His words will enables us to grow in grace. But the basic fundamentals to follow Him are self denial (love for Jesus Christ), having faith in Him and waiting patiently in hope of the eternal glory. If we don’t have this, then all our understanding would be in vain.
Thought of the Day: Lack of understanding with no faith will lead to destruction. But striving to understand His words and the revelation behind it in faith, will lead you to grow more in Jesus. When Holy Spirit is given to us, He is there to teach us all things that we need to know and understand.
1 John 2:27 But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.
